Our Story

Brooke Garber and Stephanie Nist met on their junior high school bus somewhere in between their houses in rural Vermont and U-32 Jr.-Sr. High School. College brought Brooke to Boston University while Stephanie began life on the hill at Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

After graduation, the girls entered the corporate world (Brooke in advertising and Stephanie in retail analysis), but lived for the weekends when they could plot their exit to pursue their dream of opening a boutique. When it came time to find a location, their beloved Brookline neighborhood was the perfect choice. Mint Julep opened in July 2004 and expanded to Cambridge in 2006.

In 2008 the girls checked off another item on their bucket lists… living and working in New York City. Mint Julep Lower East Side opened in July of 2008 and was open for five years. During that time, Mint Julep opened a second NYC location in the West Village. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and in 2014 Brooke and Stephanie returned to Boston full time and can be found working in the Brookline and Cambridge shops.

When not at work, the girls, still best friends, enjoy traveling, reading, yapping on the beach, and having dance parties with Brooke’s children Edie and Gray.
